Dear Mayor:

Since the Emergency Convocation of The Urban Coalition in August, an
increasing nuuber of communities across the country have asked for the assistance of
The Coalition in organizing and programming counterpart local coalitions.

With a staff capability now assembled, The Urban Coalition is now beginning
to respond to these requests particularly in those communities where it is evident
that the business, labor, religious, civil rights, and local elected government
leadership is prepared to join in efforts to resolve mtual urban probleus.

One step The Urban Coalition is taking to render assistance to these
communities ig furnishing local leadership with the enclosed Guidelines for Local
Coalitions. The Guidelines explain the objectives of The Urban Coalition and sug-
gest some of the stepa in flexible terme which wight be taken in your community in
concert with the national Caalition,

A second form of assistance offered by The Urban Coalition is a scheduled
one-day Lecal Coalition Planning Seasion for representatives from local communities
interested in pursuing local organization in support of The Urban Coalition objectives.
This session will be held October 17, 1967 in Chicago, Illinois and representative
leaders from your city are welcome to attend, Further information about this meeting
will be sent to you shortly.

Please let us hear from you about your local plans and whether we can
anticipate representation from your local leadership at the Chicago meeting.
