Mrs. Eliza Paschall

Executive Director

Community Relations Commission
City Hall

Atlanta, Georgia

Dear Mrs. Paschall:

Thank you for your letter of February 21, 1967 regarding
the public hearing held on February 16 by the new Community
Relations Commission for a delegation of young people from
the Vine City area presented a petition and plea for helping
keep in operation the Center at 141 Walnut Street.

As you probably know, effective January 1, 1967 all GEO funds

for Recreation were cut off, This left us high and dry in an
attempt to operate three distinctly different and vital
programs; namely the neighborhood playlot program (which has
grown to approximately 21 lots), city-wide Operation

Champ summer and recreation job opportunities for youth and
last but not least the very vital arts and craft and recreation
program for the senior citizens living in high rise apartments.

Not only are we hard pressed to continue to operate these
programs but we arelielng called upon by BOA to pick up and
carry on projects that they have had to cancel because of the
cut off of Federal funds.

As specifically relates to Mr. Eddie Murphy, he comes highly
recommended and endorsed not only by you but Mr. William
Fowlkes of the Nash Washington Center and a way probably can
be found to provide funds for the employment of this fine
man. He met with me Friday, February 24 at 2 P.M. to
scuss the job in detail.
