On behalf of the City Government of Atlanta officially and on behalf
of Mrs, Allen and myself personally, I extend to you and Mrs.
a most cordial invitation to join withus in celebrating
the opening of the Southeast's first major league baseball season
when your Pittsburgh Pirates meet our Atlanta Braves in our new
municipal stadium,
will
I am sure that you/join with me in the thought that the coming of
major league sports to this great region that has produced so many
outstanding athletes is an event of historical significance and of
tremendous future potential not only to our city and our region but
to all our sports minded nation, This occasion would be far from
complete without you and Mrs, joining with us in the
festivities that will precede the game and then in witnessing the first
of many contests between the Braves and the Pirates,
Tuesday evening, April 12, is the date set for the game itself, but
the festivities will begin on Monday, Arilll. Accordingly, Mrs,
Allen and I would very much like for you and Mrs,
to be our special guests at the Mayor's Dinner honoring the Atlanta
Braves on Monday evening, April ll, at the new Marriott Motel.
Incidentally, since your city has been one of the great leaders in
urban renewal, I think you will be interestedto observe that this
splendid new hotel represents a $12,000, 000 example of redevelopment
by private enterprise in one of our urban renewal projects,
On Tuesday afternoon, at 1:30 o'clock, we wouldbe honored to have
you join with us in the great baseball parade for which Atlanta is
host,
The climax of the festivities will be a program in the stadium at
7 o'clock Tuesday evening just before the game begins, We would
be honored to have you joinmmtk us on this program,
Again, I emphasize that the celebration of the advent of major league
baseball to Atlanta and the Southeast would be very incomplete
_ without the presence of the Mayor of Pittsburgh and his wife,
So I want to repeat how honored we will be to have you and Mrs,
as our guests, Complimentary reservations have
been made at the Marriott,
Iam keenly awaiting the word that you will be with us and am looking
forward to extending a personal welcome when you land at our
airport,
