It pleases me very much to compliment you most
highly on the courageous, forceful and humane manner in
which you handled the Summerhill riot. Were it not for
your prompt and intelligent action, I shudder to think of
the loss of life and property that would have resulted as
well as the great harm that would have been done to our
total community.
LI am thankful Vor your leadership and for your
sincere effort toward eliminating, where possible, many
ot the factors that make American cities vulnerable to
disturbances and unrest.
