Dear Ivan:
My wife died almost two years ago, and I
have recently married a charming lady, who has a beautiful
home here and we are living most hapoily.
This does not by any means indicate I have
lost interest in my home city, as I have the morning
paper mailed to me and read it as closely as I always
have.
I was shocked at the distressing incident you
have recently undergone with an element of Negroes, and
no one doubts it was from outside interference. You will
recall that some years ago I commended you heartily for
your position before a Committee in Washington when
many others disagreed.
Enclosed are editorials from both Miami papers
commending you and the city of Atlanta and I have heard
favorable comment here on your appearance before a
Committee on city needs.
