Ivan Allen, Jr., Mayor
City Hall

68 Mitchell St., S.W.
Atlanta, Ga.

Dear Mr. Allen:

I am a law student at Emory and have met you on several
occasions in connection with my friendship with your son
Inman.

I seldom write letters to public officials, but at this
time when events have been so discouraging for our city and
state, I feel a duty to extend my support to you and express
my confidence in your leadership.

My wife and I were visiting in New York City during the
first two weeks in September. As the news of the Summerhill
and Boulevard disturbances unfolded, your initiative and
courage were not only reassuring but made me very proud to
be able to say that I was an Atlantan.

I further believe that the nomination of Lester Maddox
not only justified your subsequent statement but demanded it.
It is a sad commentary on the leadership of our state that
you alone had the integrity to denounce this most dangerous
mane

The withdrawal of Congressman Weltner has raised the sug-
gestion that you may seek election to this seat. In any
capacity in which you decide to serve our city, My wife Jane
and I extend to you our greatest respect and our willingness
to contribute to your work in any way in which we are able.

Yours truly,

Harry L. Delung, Jr.
