Dear Mayor Allen:
I want to write and commend you on the fine
statement you have made on the horrifying Maddox
victory. Such a statement had to be made for
Georgia and the South by someone of your stature.
Ellis Arnall, of course, could not have made it
as it would have appeared as poor sportsmanship
on his part. As it was he took defeat admirably
and I hope he will come back to fight another day.
Congratulations to you for speaking out. You
have always shown yourself to be a leader with po-
litical courage and force.
