The Honorable Ivan Allen
Mayor of Atlanta
Atlanta, Georgia

Dear Mayor Allen:

It is not my custom to write letters to persons in political office.
I thought about communicating with you at the time Atlanta's firemen walked
out, and again following the riots. I felt that the vision and courage you
displayed on those occasions were exemplary and should be commended. Now
you have vividly expressed my shocked outrage at the results of the Demo-
cratic runoff, and I feel compelled to let you know that there are many of
us who endorse your statement.

I want to go further, too, and express appreciation for the quality
of leadership you are providing. To date you are the only Georgian in high
political office who has dared to make a public declaration deploring the
outcome of the primary, and warning the people of its possible devastating
effects on our state. Many of us are deeply grateful that you have suffi-
cient courage to be a spokesman for us.

Sincerely,

(Mrs.) Lena F. Fuller
Coordinator
