Your Honor:
Your testimony before the Senate
Commerce Committee was a rare combination
of sincerity, enlightenment, humility and
courage, such as we are not accustomed
to hear on this tragic issue.
I hope your statement will, as it
well could, prove the fulcrum on which
the whole issue of this historic legis-
lation will turn.
It would be hard to exaggerate, I
think, the encouragement that such a
courageous statement by a local leader
could give to a well-meaning but timid
Southern Congressman.
Congratulations!
Sincer 7
