Mayor Ivan Allen
Atlanta City Hall
Atlanta, Georgia

Dear Mayor Allen:

The stand you took in your testimony before the Senate
Committee entitles you to the respect and admiration of
all right-thinking and open-minded citizens in Atlanta
and throughout the country. Not only did you take the
right stand but your testimony was given with sincerity
and showed that you had given a great deal of thought to
this matter,

I am a Southern, white citizen with two college degrees.

I am not a radical, but I do appreciate the leadership

of people like you who have the courage to stand for what
is morally right. For a century we have relegated our
Negro citizens to a position of second-class or thirde
class citizens and there is no moral, religious or logical
reason for doing soo

I am proud of the way that Atlanta has handled the racial
problem so far, and certainly do admire you for your courage
and integrityo

a

Sincerely;

wae

Neal Penick
