September 15, 1967 Honorable Ivan Allen, Jr. Mayor, City of Atlant a City Hall Atlanta, Georgi a 30303 Dear Mayor Allen: I am sure you would be interested i n learning of the reactions of the members of the Nash-Bans Coordinating Committee to the progress report made by their selected r epresentatives who met with you in your offic e on t he morni ng of September 13, 1967, at your invitation. The extent to which the cooperative relationship being pl anned between t he committee and representatives of t he departments of the City Government havi ng responsibility for Urban Development to i nhance the welfare of all the people l ivi ng in the area can be outstanding; if the sentiments expre ssed become a functional reality. There were two questions raised however , that the committee could not answer : (1) 'Why the names of the total membership of the Nash- Bans Committee which the special committee was authorized and instructed to pre sent to you, did not appear i n the news release? It would helpful if you would advise us as to what circumstances could be indicated that t he names were presented to and accepted by you. (2) I n t he light of the agreement reached which provides that all future developments in the Nash- Bans area would r epresent a cooperative enterpri se i n which t here would be participation of representatives of the nei ghborhood, this would suggest that at an earl y date a conference might be held with Mr o Rodney Cook, of t he city department of Urban Renewal, Mr- . Collier Gladin, of City Planning and Dr. F.d.ward S. Cook , of the Board of Education~ Through such a conference a complete picture of the calculated developments in immediate contemplation may be given. This , of cours , would include schools, parks, playgrounds ets. It would also answer the quest ion as to the extent to which the building of a school should take i nto consideration the overall plan of development f or the Nash-Bans Area . I f you f i nd yourself in agreement with what is being suggested it would be appreciated i f you would give the persons at the top operative levelsthe benefit of your reaction. cc:
