Senator W. Armstrong Smith
1405 DeLowe Drive, S. W.
Atlanta, Georgia 30311
Dear Senator Smith:

Thank you very much for your letter of May 1, 1967 regarding the

_ vequest you have received from Mrs. N, 0. Gerald pertaining to

the replacement of Dogwood trees in the Cascade Heights area of
the city.

I am enclosing a carbon copy of a letter written this date to Mrs.
Gerald explaining what the City might be able to do.

The Planning Department of the City of Atlanta has submitted an

overall Urban Beautification Plan which conceivably could encompass a tree
planting program in our city. Presently, there does not exist a
sufficient labor force in this department to divert from regular
activities for an extensive tree planting program. We will certainly

try to work out some solution and assuring you of our appreciation,

I am
Cordially,
