My dear Mayor Allen:
This is just a note to express appreciation for the leadership you gave in
the riotous situation in Atlanta on Tuesday night, September 6, I returned
to the city from Miami Beach late Tuesday night and was surprised when I
heard on my car radio reports of the disturbance, Violence, of course, is
deplored, just as the conditions which nurse the potential for violence are
deplored, You have and are giving outstanding leadership in articulating
and acting on these conditions, Your leadership in the face of violence
was just as outstanding.
Might I also take this moment to congratulate you on your excellent presen-
tation before the Ribicoff Committee a.week or so ago, I thought you expressed
well what we have before us in terms of our urban areas and urban problems,
